Washington, D.C. is the 8th largest city with both Northern and Southern cultures - from the food to the music to the people, it's a fabulous mixture of both. The majority of DC is actually outside of the parks, shops, and museums. DC itself is geographically small, only 39 miles square, and quite urban. In the 1 week we were in D.C. we got to explore the city grounds, gaining knowledge of the culture from all that was around us. The pictures below will express the cultural identity of D.C.

Walking around the streets of D.C. we saw the street art that displays social justice and cultural identities. We viewed the differences in resources, cultural norms, and cultural preferences that have lead to tensions among some residents and exclusion for opportunities from others.

The monuments remind us of our history that should not be forgotten, but to guide us through the decisions we make in life. History is a key feature of D.C.'s culture.
D.C., being the nation's capital, has influences in everyday life and culture. Politics brings in a lot of diverse opinions from individuals from across the nation and even the world. During our time in D.C. we witnessed protests and visual demonstrations, a cultural norm for D.C. with which we were not familiar.
Washington, D.C. is the truest form of a melting pot with thriving ethnic pockets that represent African, Asian and Latin American cultures.There is no easy way to describe the cultural identity of D.C., except to say it is magical perfect mixture of people from every country, background and status, all jumbled together into one bustling city power of the Nation's Capitol.
