Washington County, Oregon has over 700 square miles of vineyards, city streets, nature preserves, cultural landmarks, mountains, and timberlands. Every bit of it is accessible by bicycle and I'm going to see it all.
I made this site to share my adventures. It’s for everyone who wants to learn more about local history, explore the region, or needs a new bike route.
The goals are twofold. First, this is a showcase of the county as a premier locale for cyclists of all skill levels and interests. My reports are designed to help anyone get started by charting the best routes, trailheads, and destinations.
Second, this is an exploration of our home. We tend to reduce our local environment to a few important places (work, home, shop, etc.). We ignore everything else as the junk we drive past. This is a remedy, a community-driven journey to expand our perception of our surroundings. On each trip, I seek out the significant touchstones in each community to learn and share.

How you can help
The biggest way to help is to share your memories. The goal is to learn. I've read books, wikipedia articles, and government records but that's no replacement for local stories and knowledge.
I often don't know what's important to photograph. If you think there's an important landmark that I should photograph, message me on Facebook or any of the socials at the bottom of this page.
For that matter, join the Facebook group to be the first to know about the latest rides. Be sure to add your comments. I often crosspost to relevant historic groups, especially the We Remember Hillsboro Oregon forums. As they have a wider audience, the most insightful discussions often happen there.

I'm Matt. I came to Washington County in 2011, and I won't move again. WashCo is my forever home. As a transplant, I'm always interested in learning more about the area.
I'm a very active year-round cyclist. While I've biked from Seattle to Portland and climbed Haleakala on Maui, most of my rides start in Hillsboro from my front door.
