A large site created in England. Both English and American accents used in the lessons. Free and easy to use. The full site ranges from lifeskill ESL to lessons with grammar and workplace themes. One area of the site offers "courses" with a list of links to scaffolded activities that allow students to cover a topic at home as it might be covered in class. Clear and easy to use site for pre-literate students just starting to learn letters, numbers, colors, and their first few words. Provides both audible lessons and practice opportunities.
Pumarosa is a unique site for Spanish speakers only, designed by Professor Paul Rogers. It teaches pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and civics to the intermediate level. Exercises are mainly simple translations. Very helpful for shy students getting started with their first words.
Beginning to Advanced
Occasional parts of this old site don’t work well, but it still has much to offer. The lab provides a wide choice of lively beginning, medium and advanced real life listening skits performed by actors with accompanying scripts, vocabulary focus lessons, and exercises.

Side by Side is the classic text that uses focused language pattern practice. All the videos for Book 1 are now available for free online. Lively and humorous videos for adults.
This is a lively basic skills site for children, but may also be useful for adults. This link goes directly to the Learn to Read section with excellent interactive phonics and short reading lessons. Some other areas of Starfall may be available only with membership, but a wealth of materials are free.
