First responders are trained to manage crisis, danger, and human suffering—but rarely taught what that exposure does to the mind and body over time. The Cost of the Call explores the real psychological and physiological impact of the job, including cumulative stress, trauma exposure, burnout, sleep disruption, and emotional numbing.
This class provides a clear, stigma-free understanding of how operational stress affects decision-making, relationships, and overall health. Participants will learn to recognize early warning signs in themselves and others, understand the difference between stress injuries and mental illness, and gain practical tools to support resilience and recovery. The focus is on awareness, prevention, and keeping first responders effective, connected, and well—on and off duty. Class is approximately one hour long with opportunities to extend and include more information.
Gram, the threapy dog, will attend when requested.
Finding the right therapist matters—especially when the work you do carries unique stress, trauma, and responsibility. Integrative Warrior Assistance provides referrals to culturally competent, trauma-informed therapists who understand first responder culture, operational stress, and the realities of the job.
Our referral network includes clinicians experienced in working with firefighters, law enforcement, EMS, dispatchers, veterans, and their families. These providers are trained to recognize cumulative trauma, moral injury, shift-work stress, and the mind-body impact of repeated exposure to crisis—without minimizing, pathologizing, or misunderstanding the profession.
Referrals are made with care, confidentiality, and respect for your values. Whether support is needed for job-related stress, critical incidents, relationship strain, or long-term trauma exposure, we help connect first responders with clinicians who “get it” and can provide effective, evidence-informed care.
Integrative Warrior Assistance offers limited financial assistance to help reduce barriers to mental health care for first responders. When funds are available, assistance may be provided to help cover therapy copays and, in some cases, support inpatient or higher levels of care.
This support is intended to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent first responders from accessing timely, trauma-informed treatment. Assistance is offered on a case-by-case basis and is dependent on available funding. All requests are handled with confidentiality, respect, and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by those in service professions.
Our goal is to support access to care when it is most needed—so first responders can focus on healing, stability, and returning to their lives and work with strength and support.
As part of our commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of first responders, Integrative Warrior Assistance provides a complimentary copy of The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk to first responders when resources are available.
This book offers a clear, accessible understanding of how trauma affects the brain and body—knowledge that can be especially meaningful for those regularly exposed to crisis, danger, and human suffering. By making this resource available, we aim to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and support first responders in understanding their own stress responses and paths toward healing.
Books are distributed based on availability and are offered as an educational resource, not as a replacement for professional care. Our goal is to place practical, validating tools directly into the hands of those who serve.
