Integrative Warrior Assistance (IWA) was created in 2020 from a deeply personal place—a dream born out of lived experience, hardship, and healing.
Jeremy Church, a 25-year law enforcement veteran, and his wife Julie found themselves in crisis after years of cumulative stress and trauma from the job. The weight of the work left Jeremy feeling overwhelmed and disconnected, while Julie struggled to understand how to support him. Their family unit—including their three children—was suffering. Like many first responders, Jeremy had previously reached out for mental health support, only to be met with care that failed to truly understand the impact of the profession on him and his family.
First responders often require a specialized, culturally competent approach to therapy—one that recognizes the unique realities of the job and its ripple effects at home. In 2020, Jeremy and Julie discovered EMDR, a trauma-focused therapy shown to be especially effective for first responders. Through this work, Jeremy was able to heal trauma stored in both his mind and body, leading to meaningful emotional regulation, deeper connection, and renewed relationships within his family.
As healing took place, the Church family experienced a profound shift. Jeremy no longer needed to suppress his emotions or pull away from the people he loved. Instead, he found healthier ways to engage, connect, and show up as a husband and father. Their family life continued to strengthen as healing progressed.
Today, Jeremy continues his law enforcement career and currently serves as Captain over the Training Division for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department. Julie is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Nationally Certified Therapist, Certified First Responder Counselor, and is nearing completion of her EMDR certification. With prior experience in the law enforcement field, Julie brings a unique and deeply informed perspective to her clinical work.
IWA exists to ensure that first responders and their families do not have to walk this path alone—and that they have access to care that truly understands the cost of the call and the possibility of healing beyond it.
