Training - Education - Licensing

          The Warren Amateur Radio Society offers courses several times a year for both the entry level Technician class license and the intermediate General class license.  



Currently Scheduled Classes

Classes meet 1PM - 5:30 PM (1300 - 1730) CST each Saturday and Sunday during the interval listed.

These classes are FREE.  License test requires $15 fee,  NEW  $35 license issuance fee is now in effect.

    Seating is limited, Advance registration is REQUIRED.

In-person exam sessions are scheduled for the 3rd Sunday of each ODD numbered month in Urbandale, just off I-35 & Douglas.  Space is limited and pre-registration is recommended.  Email N0CFL@arrl.net or use the Contact link below for more information.

Need to pay the FCC Grant fee?

            Licensing classes offered by the Warren Amateur Radio Society are multi-session designed to not only help you pass the associated licensing test, but give you a thorough grounding in the principles involved and the relevant rules,  preparing you for a successful entry into a new level of the Amateur Radio hobby.  Classes are based on the current edition of the ARRL license manuals for the applicable level.  Classes are FREE and  open to all (within enrollment limits) and current licensees are welcome to join as a review or refresher.  Use the Contact link below to request more information on any class or Club activity. 

Workshops are short (typically 1 - 3 hours) seminars or hands-on sessions focused on a specific topic.  For some workshops, a fee is charged to cover cost of materials.  Workshops may be scheduled with as little as 2 weeks notice, so check back often for updates.  Use the Contact link below to request more information on any workshop or Club activity, or to suggest a topic.

Previous Workshops

Wire Antennas     Presentation of an easy, inexpensive feedpoint suitable for wire dipoles or end fed antennas with 

  space for a balun or unun if needed.  Discussion of wire dipoles and end-fed antennas.

VHF / UHF base antennas   Easy to build omnidirectional mast mountable VHF / UHF antenna designs.

New Hams orientation A short introduction to practical operating as a Technician.

Directional antennas Buildable VHF / UHF designs for Yagi and other directional base antennas.

Basic Test Equipment     The right (and wrong) ways to use a multimeter (VOM), oscilloscope, clamp-on ammeter.
