Welcome! I'm Steve Ward. I've served as the District 4 city councilman for the past four years, and I'm running for re-election to preserve thoughtful, collaborative, future-focused leadership in Englewood.
I'm running for re-election because I love this city, and I enjoy helping the people who live here interact with and understand a the city government.
My wife Debbie and I have been Englewood residents since 2011. Immediately upon moving to Englewood, I made the decision to serve my community. I sat on Englewood’s Liquor and Medical Marijuana Licensing Authority for two years before joining the Budget Advisory Committee in 2013.
My experience with the Budget Advisory Committee gave me the knowledge of the essential functions of city government that a councilman needs. One of Council's most important functions is the approval of the city's annual budget. The budget determines how the city honors its duty to the citizens.
See my endorsements page to hear why I'm the best choice for District 4 from residents and business owners in Englewood.
On city council, I have a reputation among my peers for independent thinking. I try to understand the issues presented to city council and to ask the right questions. In the next four years, city council will make important decisions regarding development land use policy, repairing and replacing infrastructure, and how much the services provided to our residents should cost.
A city that does not change eventually dies. As the council representative for District 4, I'll work to shepherd the changes we need and to ensure that they occur at a pace that our residents find comfortable.
Even in city politics, there's room for a middle ground. Our community has people who seek political advantage by dividing us. Should you entrust me with another term, I'll focus on the thing that unites us - our shared love for Englewood - and look for common ground where policy discussions risk dividing us.
Lastly, when solving problems involving interactions between constituents and staff, I prefer a collaborative approach to an adversarial one. In rare occasions where the city fails to meet your expectations, I will advocate for you. I will find out what happened, why, and how we can keep it from happening again. My top priority as your council representative is to ensure that the City of Englewood honors its commitment to the citizens.
