Why we need to care about computer reliability in our society?
We need to or have to because computing applications is everywhere in our everyday life. "Increasingly, we depend upon computers and computerized systems to facilitate our daily activities. They are an integral part of modern communication, transportation, retail, banking, finance, and health-care systems. When computerized systems work correctly, they save us time and money and enable us to accomplish a great deal in a day. When they fail, the benefits can turn into harms. Failure of computer-driven systems can result in lost time, lost money, and in extreme cases, injury or even death." _ in the book p.353
How is this topic related to the movie?
Computing devices and even mechanical things such as cars are susceptible to electromagnetic pulses. Our communicating devices are built and work based on signals and waves. Therefore, a small change to the Earth's magnetic field can isolate us. [18:09]
