This year, our wonderful local chef Endang Gonzalez is launching The Village Hall Food & Fundraising Series - a new programme bringing together great food, shared experiences and community fundraising in support of the Save Our Village Hall project.
Designed to offer something for everyone, the series ranges from relaxed, low-commitment events to more immersive, special-occasion dining.
The season begins on 18 April with a Japanese food and drinks night, offering an easy way to discover Endang’s cooking and build momentum for the months ahead.
This is followed by a small series of interactive, chef-led food experiences in late spring and early summer (23 May and 4 July). Limited to just 16 participants, these intimate sessions combine demonstration, participation and shared tasting in a relaxed, social setting.
Over the summer, Endang will also be running a Southeast Asian street food marquee at the Beer Festival on 27 June, adding variety and flavour to a much-loved village event. The programme culminates in a one-off supper club in October — a ticketed, bring-your-own-wine evening designed as a special shared dining experience.
Together, these events support the Save Our Village Hall project while celebrating food as a way to bring people together, welcoming both familiar faces and new guests along the way.
Great food. Shared experiences. Supporting the Village Hall.

Peak District Expedition
My neighbour Quint and I are going to the Peak District to hike some hills on the 19th and 20th of June, if anyone would like to join us.
My faithful canine companion will not be coming due to difficult stiles and many sheep on the intended routes.
I can take two additional people in my car and we can split the mileage cost.
We will be staying at Edale YHA, which has single, double and triple occupancy rooms available as well as dormitories. The single rooms are good and have a wash basin. The toilets and showers are shared on the landing. It's a bit like camping but indoors. The beds are too short and the showers are not quite hot enough but the breakfasts are good and the pub down the road is ideal.
We expect to cover about 20 to 25 miles of steep ups and downs in the two days.
Day 1 - 19th of June
7am start from Wappenham.
Park at Edale YHA.
Hike a circular route taking in the top of Win Hill (About 11 miles).
Shower and change at base camp.
Pub.
Day 2 - 20th of June
Breakfast (7.30am before the kids on the outward bound courses come down).
Hike a circular route up and down Kinder Scout (about 11 miles).
Probably call at the pub for refreshments on the way back to the hostel.
Back to Wappy by about 7pm
If you would like to come, check the availability at Edale YHA and then let me know.
