LIST OF COMMITTEES AND DESCRIPTIONS
Beautification (seasonal throughout the year)
Committee Chairs: Jen Cortese and Kelly Beach
- Work with volunteers to clean up and maintain the entrance to the school.
Book Fair (one week each in Fall and Spring)
Committee Chairs: Jen Cortese and Melissa Bennington (open chair positions)
- Decorate according to the Scholastic theme for that year; prepare flyers to hand out to the entire school; make raffle boxes, teacher wish list board; set-up and break-down; organize volunteers, family night, bake sale.
Class Parent Liaison:
Chairperson: Melissa LoCascio
Communicating information about school happenings and events to class parents for them to pass along to classes.
Color Run: (one day in spring on weekend with a raindate)
Committee chairs: DeAndrea LaFrance and Michelle Kilimnik
-organize and plan for a spring event including mapping out a running course, work with Wall PD to secure safety during this outdoor event. Planning for items (swag bag) that are given with registration, and securing food vendor, ice cream truck, inflatables. Ordering of color for the run, collecting items for raffle baskets, and organizing volunteers for event.
Cookie Houses and Cocoa: (one Saturday/Sunday beginning of December)
Committee chairs: Melissa LoCascio and Jamie Rutkowski
-Ordering of cookie houses in the fall, planning for setup (Friday evening), organizing volunteers for event
Discovery Garden - (seasonal throughout the year)
Committee Chairs: Dana Kocsis (open chair positions)
- Maintain the garden during off-school days; communicate with the Principal about needs; make sure grounds are free of weeds; help fundraise for seeds or material, etc. Plant Sale before Mother’s Day weekend?
Fifth Grade Committee (meets throughout the school year)
Committee Chair(s): (One board member is a chair, Melissa LoCascio) and Lauren Galok, Erin Ahern and Kristen Cox
-Organize 5th grade events such as: 5th grade trip, 5th grade picnic, Sweet Farewells, T-shirts and Lawn signs.
Fundraising (throughout the school year)
Committee Chairs: Jamie Rutkowski and Andrea Weaver
-Spearhead fundraising ideas above and beyond existing programs, gather fundraising suggestions from other CAPE members and decide whether or not to move forward with a function; take ideas, develop them, and execute them.
Gift Auction (one evening in the Fall)
Committee Chairs: DeAndrea LaFrance and Michelle Kilimnik
-organize and plan for a gift auction event for adults at a local bar/restaurant. This includes securing the venue, verifying licenses for this type of event are current, collecting donations to create baskets for the event to be raffled, and securing volunteers to run the event. Must keep track of registration, donation collection, and payments for the event.
Holiday Gift Shop (one week event in late Nov/early Dec, planning starts in Sept)
Committee Chairs: Natali Megill, Tara Gathercole, Jamie Franco, and Nichole Bissey
- Organize, set up, and break down the shop. Manage volunteers, work during the gift shop. Contact the vendor and order gifts before and during the shop.
Hospitality / Teacher Appreciation (multiple events throughout the School year)
Committee Chairs: Kelly Beach, Leah Piscopo and Lisa Giannattasio
- Responsible for organizing, setting up any appreciation events for teachers including 3 meals/luncheons throughout the year. Also responsible for encouraging and welcoming new students and parents into our community. Can set up little get-togethers.
Lip Sync (two night event in February, planning starts around November)
Committee Chairs: Lisa Giannattasio, Mary Kulcsar and Jamie Rutkowski
-Manage group information, forms, song approval. Manager forms and ticket sales, seating. Attend rehearsals and performances. Organize volunteers. Create a program for the event.
Little Knights Store (during events)
Committee Chair(s): Natali Megill and Nichole Bissey
-Order merchandise, arrange volunteers, set up and clean up the store at school during recess
Media Specialist (throughout the school year) (board member will chair)
Chairperson: Lisa Giannattasio
Responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring CAPE’s social media strategy in order to increase awareness, improve efforts and increase information passed on to members. Specifically maintaining CAPE’s Google Website, Facebook and Instagram page.

Tracking current members of CAPE.
Pumpkin Patch (one day in Oct./ pre planning in Sept.)
Committee Chairs: Kelly Beach, Leah Piscopo and Lisa Giannattasio
-Acquiring pumpkins, washing and prep, distributing pumpkins on field, getting volunteers to help, and ordering pumpkin face stickers from Oriental Trading for the entire school.
Read A Thon (two weeks including Read Across America week)
Committee Chairs: Melissa Bennington and Deandrea LaFrance
-organizing and planning through website, making flyer with sign up for read a thon. Planning for prizes to top readers.
Spirit Wear (Preplanning in August / Sales runs two weeks in Sept)
Committee Chairs: Leah Piscopo, Tara Gathercole and Fundraising Commmitteee
- Contact at Sneakers Plus at the end of July/ Have items chosen and a flyer ready to go by the end of August if possible for K Orientation or at least by 1st day of school.
Student Directory (Preplanning in August / Finish end of Oct.)
Committee Chair: Jen Smith
Set up Google Form, align teachers names with grade level, collect info and edit into a PDF, get 3rd Cover Art winner from Yearbook Team and make it the cover of the Digital Student Directory before distribution.
Theater Week (one week in October or November or March)
Committee Chairs: Trish Parratt, Andrea Pica and Jana Klotzkin
-Organize with the vendor, monitor the week-long program, create materials (tickets, program, permission slips, etc.), organize volunteers, attend programs for the week.
Wishlist- CAPE board, Mr. Monafis, Office Staff, Custodial Staff
-brainstorming, prioritizing, and implementing purchases for school based on needs/wants.
Yearbook (meet several times throughout the school year, take pictures at school functions)
Committee Chairs: Lisa Giannattasio and Jamie Franco
-Develop, create, and handle all aspects of the Central School yearbook. Coordinate with photographers to cover all Central events.
