I am implementing MediaPlayer class in my app and I want music played on background, so I used Service instead of Activity or BroadcastReciever. Now the problem is, if user exist or pause the app, music playing on without stopping. I did add onStop and onPause methods, but the problem keeps. And I can't call super.onPause() method like I do in Activity class.

First off you never have the option to do anything long running in a BroadcastReceiver because the system will not like you.So I'm a little confused. You want the music to be playing in the background so you used a Service. That is correct. But now you say that when the user exits or pauses your activity the music is still playing? Well yes it will, isn't that the reason you put it in a Service to begin with??

You have 2 options. You can move the calls to start and stop your media player in onStart()/onResume() and onPause()/onStop() of your activity. That will only play music when the Activity has the foreground.

Your second option is to keep the MediaPlaying in the Service. However, you will need to send an Intent to your Service to let it know when to stop playing music. The best way todo this is pack up a PendingIntent to give to the Notification Manager that will start an Activity which has buttons on it that will pause and play your music. If you do not provide a way for the use to get back to an Activity that controls a service then your music will play to the end and user will not have a nice way to turning it off.

EDIT- btw, this is NOT a music player app, just an app to view pics and text, opens multiple activities like menu and about, view diff types of pictures etc. I just want to play some simple background music while looking thru the pics and text, why is that so difficult?

Call player.stop(); in an onPause override, this is not what I want because background music stops when I leave the home activity for other activities like 'menu' and 'about', I also do not what to use pause and resume when opening new activities because I do not want the pretty background music to 'skip' or be interrupted.

This is better because background music does not stop between activities, and when I press BACK from my home activity, the music stops, and I can continue to enjoy my android fun phone in peace and quiet, but the problem is, when pressing the HOME button to "exit" my app, that pesky background music keeps playing.

NOW HERE IS THE THING that completely blows my mind, every game and every app I have downloaded from the android market has very beautiful background music, and when I press BACK or HOME because I am done playing that lovely game the music stops, not keeping playing in the background.

I also don't understand why the 6 or 7 SO threads with the exact same issue, have not been answered, every downloadable app on the market stops playing its music (unless its a background music player) when you press HOME or BACK or whatever to "exit" the app to go do something else on your phone.

Now obviously you do not need the "Toasts" but it will tell you what is going on.The very intersting thind is when you press BACK from your 'Home/Main' activity, you obviously get 2 Toasts, "YOU PRESSED BACK FROM YOUR 'HOME/MAIN' ACTIVITY", and the 2nd Toast is "YOU SWITCHED ACTIVITIES WITHIN YOUR APP". I believe I know why this happens, but it doesn;t matter because I call "player.stop();" from the 2 scenarios that mean my app is no longer being 'used'. Obviously do more work than "player.stop();" if you need to :) And also obvious you dont need the "else" for "YOU SWITCHED ACTIVITIES WITHIN YOUR APP", because there is no reason to "stop/pause" the background music, which is what i needed, but if you DO need to do something when new activities are started, well here you go :)

Another problem I found is that my app (idk if it's part of the android build or not) was running the onResume method right before he got the player back on, so I ran a while loop in order to receive the player not as a null pointer, and it works because it runs on a different thread, therefore enabling the app to run the onResume without crashing and the music alongside it.

Hi my new airpods pro 2 stop playing music every 30seconds or minutes. My phone can connect to audio bluetooth device and work normally and i have tried to reset my airpods pro 2. I have a pixel 7 pro on Android 13

When the display is off and music is playing (Tidal, default music app, YT music) the track will stop playing. When I turn on the screen it is at home screen and the app will restart as if force closed and the song will be skipped forward. This does not happen with the normal YT app for whatever reason.

I'm kinda already at my wits end with this. May sound dramatic since the update barely came out but I got this phone for a good value and for great music playback. But now its frustrating to use since I have to keep the screen on to keep music playing when I'm walking/jogging.

There is currently no way to give the Spotify app priority over all other sounds on you Android phone. Music should not stop if you go over a video with it's sound set to Mute on the various social media apps, but if those apps play videos with sound automatically, then you'll hear those videos and the music from the Spotify app will be paused.

If the user did not tell Spotify to stop, it should NOT stop, under absolutely ANY circumstances. It is doing something the user did not tell it to and that is a major issue. End of.

It makes it a non-starter to choose to use Spotify while doing anything else on the phone (harming their end too). You have to keep a better player around that does not have this monumental use-stopper of a problem, and use that instead of Spotify, just because of this "behaviour".

Just while posting this, my music (I am using Spotify for a specific playlist today) has stopped 5 times because I had to go to Slack and WhatsApp for stuff. This is stuff that isn't even using audio, to boot. Inexcusable. I wonder if Apple or Tidal have the same problem, because GoneMad with my own files sure doesn't.

The desktop Spotify app, does/should that stop when Windows plays another sound? No. Why should it? Why is Android any Different? It is a multi-use computer, you are using it, you told it to play music, there's a stop button if you want it to stop.

You are right.. i was listening to spotify but they always stop playing the music whenever facebook video plays (when i scroll) and of course that's annoying. Imagine you want to hear music while scrolling social media but instead spotify just like stopping and playing continously, of course that's annoying right?

Music is an integral part of the human experience, and music streaming allows music to be played anywhere from any device, including the best budget Android phones. Music streaming is also advantageous because it allows you to play any song you can think of without needing a physical copy of it. Since music streaming is a virtual service, it is fairly easy to modify your subscription.

Several music streaming services are available, and YouTube Music is one of the most popular. It's a compelling service due to its music recommendation algorithm, auto-generated playlists, and more. Even though it's a great service, it might not be for everyone. If you've decided it's time to move on and need to cancel your subscription, it's pretty easy to do.

Before learning how to cancel your YouTube Music account, you need to know a couple of things. First, you can only cancel a YouTube Music Premium subscription, not YouTube Music altogether. Canceling a YouTube Music Premium subscription only removes premium features. You can still access YouTube Music and listen to music with ads. The only way to cancel a YouTube Music free account is by deleting the linked YouTube account.

Even though YouTube Music has an Android and iOS app, the simplest way to cancel your paid membership is on a computer. If you want to skip straight to step 3, go to music.youtube.com/paid_memberships.

Now that you've canceled your YouTube Music subscription, you're probably looking for a replacement. There are several options whether you want a widely used service like Spotify, something that comes with a service you're paying for, like Amazon Music, or a Hi-Fi service like Tidal. If you decide that Spotify is your next music streaming service, check out our guide to learn how to set up and use it.

This issue is not specific to the Power Music NOW app. It is reported across the internet as a problem that exists primarily with Samsung devices. It's even been reported to happen when playing popular music apps like Spotify. It really is a case by case, device by device issue. Only a small number of Power Music subscribers have reported this problem. We've optimized our player to be as effective as possible. We understand that it may have worked on our old app or works with other music apps. This is purely coincidence.

In digital audio apps, stutters occur when music samples can't be delivered to the output channel (speakers, headphones, Bluetooth, etc) on time. For apps that only play downloaded music, the usual causes are files that can't be read fast enough, in-memory "buffers" that are too small, or insufficient CPU resources for decoding and playback.

2. Software Audio Enhancement (UHQ). In an effort to improve the apparent sound quality of media played on their devices, Samsung applies an optional audio signal processor that they call "Ultra High Quality Sound". While Samsung treats this as a feature that surely pleases many users, this software step becomes an extra load being applied to to the CPU when audio is playing. The extra demand on the CPU can starve the source music app and can result in stuttering. ff782bc1db
