Miss Yvonne Vasquez was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas. She graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1997. She received a Bachelor of Music Education from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2008 and received a Master of Music Education from Texas Tech University in May 2016.
Her musical career began at the age of 5 on the violin studying with a member of the Mid-Texas Symphony in New Braunfels. Her mariachi career then began at the age of 10 in the Teatro de Artes de Juan Sequin program in Seguin, TX where she participated for 3 years. At the age of 13 she joined her first professional mariachi group where she played violin and was a vocalist until she graduated high school in 1997.
Miss Vasquez began her undergraduate studies at Texas Tech University where she was a member of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland and a co-founding member of Texas Tech’s first student mariachi organization, Mariachi Raiders Rojos, now Mariachi Matadores. She completed her undergraduate degree at UTSA. While at UTSA she was a member of Mariachi Los Paisanos and also opened her own mariachi academy, Viva el Mariachi Music Academy in New Braunfels. After graduation she was hired at Northeast ISD in San Antonio as a band director at Wood Middle School and then at Krueger Middle School. Her bands have received superior and excellent ratings at all UIL competitions and festivals.
She has performed with several professional mariachi groups in Lubbock, New Braunfels, and San Antonio, TX. She has performed for Edward James Olmos, Michael Salgado, Elida Reyna, Eva Longoria, the San Antonio Spurs, and most recently George Lopez. She brings to Wallace Middle School 40 years of violin experience, 35 years of mariachi experience, and a love of teaching middle school children music education.
Ms. Vasquez is also adjunct professor/lecturer of Mariachi at Texas Luthern University in Seguin, TX.
