This was our Seventh trip to walk along the North Wales coast path. We set off around 5am with just a quick stop at a local petrol station to fill up and get a few supplies. We arrived at Llanfairfechan at around 7.20am, parking on the car park on the seafront. Which was free parking. We made the short walk to the railway station, the next train was at 8.03. there was no staff and no ticket machine. Noticing a sign that this was a request stop and tickets needed to be pre booked. So I had to frantically download an app and book us tickets. Luckily my Son was on hand to help his Dad out with this new technology stuff. The train arrived and I got talking to another hiker who was at the station also walking the coast path. He came up from Lichfield and was nearly finished, but he had done the path in a random order. We departed the train at Conwy and made our way to the High Street, it was early and hardly anything was open. We found a Spar, purchased a coffee from the machine and some snacks for later and made our way back to the castle. Here we began this section, only a few meters along and we passed the smallest house in Britain. We have a fridge magnet from here from way back (My Wife collects fridge Magnets, we have a lot of them) Then through the towns castle walls and on along a very scenic tarmac estuary pathway, which eventually lead us out onto a road, a short walk along crossing the A55 onto a nice harbourside housing estate which lead to the harbour, which lead us up to the coast once again. The path soon turned to sand dunes as we walked alongside a quiet beach. This lead us to the A55 and a large headland that was sticking out to sea. The busy road and railway line went through tunnels, so where were we going to go I thought as we got closer. The Eastbound carriageway went through a tunnel, the Westbound skirted the cliffs and with a crash barrier for protection so did our coast path and National Cycle Route 5. As the carriageway entered a tunnel, our path went alone around the cliffs edge, After we passed the tunnels the path runs alongside the busy A55 for a while, passing Penmaenmawr. there was a footbridge that lead across the road to a petrol station (One of the few places for refreshments on this section of the path today) We continued ahead as we were all good. The path left the A55 for Penmaenmawr promenade where we witnessed a group of people go swimming. It was cold, but they all seemed in good spirit. There was a cafe open, (That only accepted cash) I don't know if this was all the time or just today so it meant no dinner for us here as I only had enough for drinks OR light snacks on me. Two lattes and a sit down before we pressed on. There was some lovely artwork, pretty painted beach huts and a historic remains to be seen. then more tunnels came into view. How would we be getting past this next seaward mountain. Well, up some ramps, then steps to a minor road, then a pathway which lead to a bridge over one of the A55 carriageways and a pathway which lead up slightly in between the tunnel on our left and the lower Eastbound Carriageway to our right. This was a nice little stretch. We stopped for our third rest on a bench along here, a quick cake stop. The path eventually lead back down at the far end of the tunnels and we had a short walk along a housing estate before returning to a minor road at Llanfairfechan. A short walk through the town and we were soon back at the promenade. Hot chocolates on the beach, the lad was not hungry so we did not order food, even though I was a bit. We sat on the wall on the sea front for a short while and admired the colours of the houses on the seafront before returning home.
