We had an early start, making the drive to Holyhead and parking the car at a small car park on Prince of Wales Road. The plan was to catch the 61 bus from Summer Hill bus stop to Llanfachraeth, the early start was the bus only runs a few times a day, (Not at all on Sundays) the bus I planned for was to depart at 8.45am. We arrived in Holyhead at around 8am. So made the walk to St Cybi’s Church and filmed a little and around the town as it was quiet with no one about, stocked up on supplies and waited for the bus for around 20 mins. The bus was on time and we were soon off. Just after 9am we arrived in Llanfachraeth and it started to lightly drizzle. On our previous walk the area of coast path near Llanfachraeth was flooded and we had to leave the path and head for a line. I had planned to finish the walk at a green footbridge, we could see it in the distance but could not get to it. Today we back tracked along the lane we had used as an escape last time, finding a public footpath headed back towards the coast path. this time the waters had receded to normal levels and we made our way to the bridge. First a quick walk slightly back to cover a small part of the path we had missed last time and then we continued our walk along the coast path. The first section following the River back towards the estuary. Once over the bridge the path was pretty easy to follow, as the path is fenced in on both sides. The grass was wet and for the first time my boots had lost their waterproofness. We followed the river eventually leading to the Cymyran Strait where we found a small beach, we were then off the beach, through a housing estate and back near the Stanley Embankment. Cross the embankment alongside the A5 and then through the beautiful Penrhos Coastal Park, looking for red squirrels along the way. We also stopped at The Toll House for a coffee. The path leads back into Holyhead along the coast where we got good views of the awaiting ferries. Passing the train station and ferry terminal we soon ended up back in the town. We made our way back to the car, but before heading home we relaxed by the harbour for nearly an hour with ice creams and light refreshments. The weather soon brightened up and we are looking forward to the next stretch.
Starting at Llanfachraeth we made our way back to the footbridge (Form Llanfachraeth take the small lane next to Gwesty Holland Hotel which leads down to the coastal path, taking a left ///premiums.overlaid.polo just after a small bridge over a stream)
We cross the green footbridge ///shocking.noun.contact and head up the steps on the opposite side, at the top the path turns right, and is fenced in on both sides so its pretty straightforward. Keep to the path for a while, crossing a few small bridges and walking a few boardwalks along the way, it keeps near the riverside. Eventually it takes a sharp right and continues briefly on a wall ///blotchy.gravitate.warrior Continue along the wall which has a handrail on one side, at the end of the wall, continue ahead on the path which is once again fenced off on both sides so it is easy to follow.
