Another trip to Wales, early start and arrived at Llanddona Beach at around 9am, It was an experience driving down to the beach on a steep gradient narrow single track lane. Free parking at the car park which was a bonus. We headed off for a quick explore of the beach, the tide was out and we made our way to the waves. Then it was back and headed off along the coast path. We are only walking 5 Miles today as we will be walking back. Firstly leaving the lane and walking a dirt track just away from the main beach, separated from the beach by a small strip of marshland, with the occasional boardwalk and then a wall, approx 4 foot high and two feet wide, a few steps up and you walk along the wall for a while, with a handrail on the seaside side. The wall ends and back down to a grassy path and eventually a sandy path which leads onto a small beach car park. A short bit of lane walking across two small bridges and you are back off road, walking around the corner of Red Wharf Bay, passing the odd cottage and exposed rock faces, this is a beautiful little stretch of the path. Eventually leading onto a small beach, we were lead up a lane for a short walk and off onto a dirt path. This eventually leading back down to some pub outdoor seating. The Ship Inn, which we stopped at on the return walk for a quick shandy. Passing through Red Wharf Bay we were off away from the coast again, passing through a large caravan park with glimpses of the sea, after this we were back down to a path running almost parallel to the beach, with a rock face on our left and beach views through the trees to our right. There was one stinky bit just before entering Benllech as you pass what looks like a water treatment place, but we soon passed by. Arriving in Benllech for an ice cream and a hot chocolate and a rest before heading back. The return journey was great as we did the same walk with different views. The tide was in on the return and some of the beaches we had seen and large sandy areas had gone, replaced with a calm clear water. We stopped at the Ship Inn at Red Wharf Bay as it looked too tempting, a novel idea, a well dressed gentleman serving us at the window, really enjoyed our visit. sitting next to the sea supping a refreshing pint of shandy. Then we continued back, walking instead on Llanddona Beach instead of the official coast path for our last stretch, having to wade through a couple of streams on the beach. Loved it.
