Notes
We love for our children’s creativity to flow and wills to be in unison as much as possible. Hence the above times are not strictly implemented but a definite guide to the flow of the day and the activities.
Chiriya Class children are taken into their class and given slightly more defined learning and more emphasis is placed on the fine motor skills, numeracy and literacy learnings.
The Senikau class also consist of mixed aged children. “Senikau," which is a Fijian word that means blossoms or flowers. The reason behind choosing this name is because it symbolizes love, beauty, growth, and childhood. We feel that these qualities perfectly capture the essence of our classroom and the values we strive to instill in our students.
Mrs. Nanise Tadulala and Mrs. Losana Nairigia teach the Senikau class. The Senikau Class has a set routine that alternates between student-led and teacher-led activities. Each day involves a specific activity, such as baking, painting, or handicraft, as well as a period of unstructured play that may occur indoors or outdoors. The day flows with regular and repetitive activity, such as circle time which includes songs and rhythmical verses, music and movement. The morning tea which includes fruits, prepared by adults and children is shared together around the table, where the mood is relaxed and social. Painting, drawing, crafts, and domestic arts including baking, cooking, cleaning, and self- and other care are additional activities.
In Steiner Waldorf Schools, formal teaching doesn't begin until a child enters Class 1 at age six. Instead, the Early Childhood curriculum gives children the time and space they need to grow socially, emotionally, and physically in a fun, safe, supportive, and peaceful setting before preparing them for formal education. The building blocks for literacy and numeracy are built in a setting that values play and hands-on learning, and where a strong oral tradition supports language and communication.
We offer a half-day session from 8am to 12.30pm inclusive of morning tea and Lunch and Full day session from 8am to 3pm inclusive of morning tea, Lunch and afternoon snacks.
