Jazz Band

Jazz Band is offered in conjunction with students who currently are enrolled in a concert ensemble. The primary educational goal of Jazz Band is to develop and nurture an understanding of Jazz music history, playing styles, music theory, and improvisation. We have two Jazz bands. Jazz A is a class and is the more advanced ensemble. Jazz B is an after school group that meets one day a week.

The ensemble performs frequently throughout each school year. They are expected to learn and retain numerous musical Jazz pieces to play at a number of community and school events. The numerous amount of jazz pieces will vary in genre, playing style, musical background, and jazz historical background. 

The instrumentation for this ensemble includes Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Trumpet, Guitar, Bass (Electric and/or Upright), Piano, Drumset, Vibes (plus auxiliary percussion sometimes). Jazz B ensemble is NOT an audition-based ensemble. Everyone is free to join.
