ICL is an acronym for the Implantable Collamer® Lens and is a state-of-the-art vision correction procedure. We only use the most recent iteration, the EVO Visian ICL. The implantable collamer lens is placed inside the natural eye behind the iris (the colored part of the eye) and helps correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. Implantable collamer lenses are safe, effective, UV protective, and give a phenomenal visual result. You have many vision correction options, and ICLs can give you better vision than LASIK in certain cases. In fact, if you are very nearsighted, this may be the best option for vision correction.

How it works.

During the ICL procedure, there is no discomfort. Dr. Waite creates a small incision at the edge of the cornea. The lens is folded, inserted through the opening, and positioned in the eye in front of your natural lens. The procedure takes less than 10 minutes, the visual results are almost immediate, and has a quick recovery time. Call our office to schedule your consultation and see if ICLs are right for you.

How Long Does ICL Take

The procedure takes less than 10 minutes and the results are rapid. A tiny incision is created at the base of the cornea, though you will not feel a thing thanks to numbing drops. The lens is folded, inserted through the opening and positioned in the eye behind the iris. Our team will make sure you are relaxed and comfortable throughout the entire ICL procedure.

Does ICL eye surgery wear off?

No, the visual results are indefinite. ICLs are remarkable and the results do not wear off. If reading glasses are needed after age 50 from natural age progression, that can be corrected as well.

Can I Use My HSA or FSA for ICL

ICL is a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account eligible procedure. If your company offers a health or flexible spending account, you can use pre-tax money to pay for ICL.

What is the age limit for an ICL procedure?

The American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the implantable collamer lens for those between the ages of 21 and 45. This age range is based on the age group studied in clinical safety studies. But what if you are above 45?

There are compelling reasons to implant ICLs, particularly for those who have nearsightedness (myopia) and are well into their fifties. When the lens becomes less flexible in your late 40’s, reading vision deteriorates. There is still a great deal of versatility available, and as you become closer to your fifties, ICLs can be used to correct both the distance and the reading vision.

What Happens If I Rub My Eyes After ICL

Rubbing your eyes is never a good idea even if you haven’t had a procedure. We’ll ask you to avoid rubbing your eyes for the first three to five days after your EVO Visian ICL surgery. The ICL is placed within the eye, thus touching the surface won’t bother it.

Will I wear glasses after an EVO Visian ICL procedure?

Our goal is to have you out of glasses after your EVO ICL procedure. In rare cases, there may be residual myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism after your procedure. If this happens, we can correct that as well so you won’t need glasses afterwards. Schedule your consultation today to find out if you are a candidate for EVO Visian ICL.

How Much Does An ICL Procedure Cost

Your EVO Visian ICL investment at Waite Vision is $3650 per eye, or $7300 for both eyes. Think of it this way: After your ICL procedure, you’ll never again search for those glasses or worry about losing a contact lens. When you invest in your vision correction, you invest in yourself.

How much are glasses and contacts costing you?

The average person spends $25,000+ on glasses, contacts, solution, eye exams, etc. It’s like renting your vision from the glasses and contact lens industry. Worst of all, these will NEVER improve your vision. Use our affordability calculator and see how much you can save in the future by getting the implantable collamer lens.

ICL questions? We've got answers.

What is EVO Visian ICL?

You can think of the EVO Visian ICL as an implantable contact lens that is placed inside the eye in front of your natural lens that corrects vision. Since the ICL is made of collagen, you will not be able to see or feel it, and since it works with your body chemistry, you will not even be aware that it is there. People with myopia (nearsightedness) with or without astigmatism who want to see without glasses and contacts may be ideal candidates for the ICL procedure. Even if you have been told you are not an ideal candidate for LASIK or other vision correction surgeries, ICL may be the solution for you for permanent vision correction.
