The Handcrafters and Artisans Alliance requires that all new and returning artists have their items screened by a committee of current members. HAA seeks artists that handcraft their items in Hawai'i. Due to our agreement with the City and County of Honolulu and Kapiolani Park, all artists must be present in their booth at our events.
For any questions about attending HAA events as an artist and becoming a member of HAA, please email Nancy- tropicalcottons@aol.com. Your inquiry will be forwarded to the screening committee. The Waikiki Artfest application deadline is 3 weeks before the event.
HANDCRAFT GUIDELINES
1. ALL items displayed for sale by the vendor must be handcrafted by the seller.
2. We will not accept products that are simply assembled from pieces – there must be
some artistic input from the artist – something that makes each piece different from the rest in
some way. For example: if you create jewelry, and your base materials are a variety of
purchased beads (we do not require that you carve the beads yourself), the finished product
should show some amount of individual designing – don’t simply take the beads, restring them,
and attach a clasp – no artistic input – just assembly.
3. If you have been screened for a certain product or type of product, and you wish to
branch out into another type of item, the new products must be screened before they can be
displayed for sale. For example: If you create and are screened to sell handmade/tailored
clothing, and you wish to sell jewelry, you must be screened for the jewelry items before they
can be sold at your booth.
4. Vendors found to be displaying items that do not meet our craft fair guidelines will be
asked to remove the items from their display. Failure to comply will result in your removal from
the event and forfeiture of your booth fees. Vendors will be expected to monitor themselves, and
will no longer be given repeated reminders.
5. Any vendor who has questions regarding the compliance of their product can contact
The screening committee to set up a screening appointment. The screeners check for inventory
of your raw materials, an understanding of the process by which you create your product, as
well as examining your final product.
