Concerned about how to get into college?

Many of us advisors were first-generation college students ourselves, meaning that, we were the first in our families to attend college and graduate with a degree. We know that this story resonates with so many which is why we passionately fight for equity and provide the support, guidance, and knowledge needed to shine a light on the path to higher education.

2. Financial Stress?

Let's be real: College is expensive. However, what many students don't know is that they could qualify for different types of financial aid that can significantly assist in your college expenses. We even have students who qualified for full rides--free tuition and room & board for 4 years!

3. No idea where to begin?

Once you're apart of Wahupa Upward Bound, you are apart of a family. You are designated to an advisor that will check on you at least twice a month to connect with you, check in on your academic status, and work with you to take the necessary steps in becoming an eligible candidate for a 4-year university.

We strive to make sure all of our students are academically prepared for the post-secondary level. We do this by helping our students with their long-term and short-term goals, and by recognizing and emphasizing their strengths and accomplishments.

We make sure that all of our Upward Bound students are well informed about the financial responsibility that college brings. We do this by teaching our students financial literacy on topics such as, FAFSA interpretation, tuition, establishing credit, opening checking and savings accounts, as well as work-study, and scholarship opportunities.

We are committed to making sure our students are fully prepared for the adjustments that they'll have to make as college students. We teach our students about time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, personal development, life skills, academic planning, community involvement, and topics such as special interest engagement.

We provide an individualized educational success plan for each of our students to ensure their success in college. Our educational success plan includes career & major planning, financial aid/scholarships acquisition, SAT/ACT preparation, personal advising, study skills, tutoring, & college/university visits.
