Hi! I'm a Helix Charter High School Alumni and San Diego local, born and raised! I went to Humboldt State University for a B.A. in Communication and a Minor in Business Administration. As a teenager and young adult, I was always so confused about what I wanted to do in life, because as a first-generation college student I had to figure a lot of things out on my own through trial and error. I didn’t know that programs like Upward Bound existed as a resource to help mitigate the errors. I can now say that I am very proud to be given the opportunity to help students along a similar path and offer some guidance down, what may seem as, an intimidating path for a lot of us first-gen's.

I am originally from Charlotte, North Carolina where I attended Northwest School of the Arts. 3 days after graduating high school, I moved to California hoping to find myself in a better environment than where I grew up. I attended San Diego State University graduating with a B.A. in Communication Studies with a minor in Counseling & Social Change. In high school I thought that I needed to have a strict plan for success in order to save my family. I did everything I could to educate myself, but there was a lot that I did not know no matter how much I researched. Throughout my college experience, I learned that the effects of being a first-generation student weighed a heavy burden. In the beginning, I lacked the confidence and resources to transition into college smoothly. The journey was not easy, but college gave me the freedom to break the molds that I felt trapped in. I discovered who I truly am through my experience and the impact I want to make in my community. I love inspiring people to be their best selves. My passion for people pushes me to continue my education obtaining a Master’s in Marriage & Family Therapy. I believe that through resources and support, any goal can be achieved which is why I love working at WAHUPA. A program like WAHUPA would have been such a great opportunity when I was in high school, so I am very excited to help students become the best versions of themselves!
