In this course, students will explore the diverse aspects of the teaching profession and develop a deeper understanding of the responsibilities and challenges faced by educators.This course provides a comprehensive overview of the teaching profession, including professions in education, planning and preparation, instructional strategies, building a positive classroom environment and professionalism.
This course focuses on effective instructional strategies and curriculum planning for educators. Students will develop a deeper understanding of concepts taught in Introduction to the Teaching Profession. Students will plan clear and thoughtful instruction aligned to standards, explore educational resources, as well as design and analyze assessment. This course will emphasize the importance of designing lessons, collecting data through formative assessment, and utilizing data to inform instruction
This course explores the scientific study of human development across the lifespan, from conception to death. We examine physical, cognitive, social, and emotional changes that occur throughout childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and aging.
Students explore key concepts such as neuroplasticity, memory formation, attention, motivation, and emotional regulation. Investigate the impact of factors such as stress, sleep, nutrition, and movement on cognitive function and learning.
In this course, students will explore various exceptionalities including intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and emotional/behavioral disorders. Through a combination of classroom lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities, students will learn about the characteristics and educational implications of these exceptionalities.
Students explore the diverse cultural, social, and linguistic backgrounds of students in contemporary classrooms. We examine critical issues in education including: understanding and creating inclusive learning environments for all students; exploring the diverse cultural backgrounds, values, beliefs, and experiences that students bring to the classroom, and how these factors impact learning and development.
In this experience, students are enrolled as a peer mentor within the WASD integrated unified arts classes. In these classes, students with disabilities will be offered physical education, music, art, and/or drama experiences alongside of their typically developing peers.
This course provides students with supervised practical experience in a professional setting relevant to their field of study.
Under the supervision of a cooperating teacher and Professions in Education (CTE) supervisor, students will engage in all aspects of classroom instruction, including lesson planning, classroom management, student assessment, and differentiation
