Stunt Road

THESIS EXHIBITION

Stunt Road was an exhibition that I coorganized with fellow art history graduate student and photographer Ange Wong who came with me to Los Angeles in the summer of 2015 to help me rehearse the drives and photograph the landscape. The exhibition took place in Spring 2016 and contained photographic works, virtrine displays, maps, playlists, and a three channel video installation of my 2015 reperformances. It is part creative response to the drives and part documentation of them. I hope it servers as an invitation for others to explore future performances.

Playlists

There were three separate drives with different routes and playlists:

1) a 40 minute drive that traveled along Malibu Canyon Road
2) a 90 minute drive that traveled along Kanen Dume Road
3) a drive in the San Gabriel Mountains which Hockney developed at a later point in time

Routes

I took a Thomas Guide map book to my interviews with Hockney and he marked the routes of the Wagner Drives.

Three Channel Video Installation

Using a GoPro Camera, I filmed various performaces in summer 2015. I then synchronized three of them to the Wagnerian soundtrack and projected the three-channel installation in the gallery. The videos mimicked a front windshield with driver and passenger windows on either side. Viewers could sit on a bench.
