There are two easy ways to get between the airport and MTS services. The first option is using Route 992. This route stops on the elevated platform at both terminals and only take 15 minutes to get to/from the Santa Fe Depot in Downtown San Diego. Service on the 992 is every 15 minutes for most of the day, 7 days a week.
One-way fares are just $2.50 ($1.25 for Seniors, Disabled, Medicare Recipients and Youth. There are also Ticket Machines at the Airport near Information Centers at the Santa Fe Deport and America Plaza Trolley stations. More information below.
The second option is a free airport shuttle from the Old Town Transit Center. This option is called the San Diego Flyer. It picks up and drops off passengers on the east side of the transit center near the depot building.
The San Diego Flyer operates every 20-30 minutes, seven days a week. Pick-up and drop-offs are timed to meet the first and last Trolley, COASTER, Amtrak trains and MTS busses. The first pick up is at 4:45 a.m. and the last pick-up/drop-off is at 12:30 a.m.. The San Diego Flyer picks up and drops off at the Transportation Plaza (across the street from baggage claim).
San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) offers multiple ways to pay. Most MTS bus and Trolley services are $2.50 one-way ($1.25 for senior, disabled and Medicare riders). Fares paid with a PRONTO card, the app or a contactless credit / debit card include free transfer for two hours. See more details below on each fare payment type.
PRONTO cards are available for purchase (one-time $2 fee) at ticket machines, the MTS Transit Store, NCTD customer service centers and retail outlets. Youth, Senior, Disabled and Medicare discounts require verification before reduced or free passes can be used.
