Doctoral Symposium
Call for Papers
The W2GIS Doctoral Symposium invites PhD students at all stages of their research to participate in an enriching academic experience. The Symposium serves as a valuable platform for doctoral candidates to receive feedback and guidance from well-known researchers and industry experts. The primary objectives of this event are as follows:
Enhance communication skills. The event will allow students to practice their ability to present their research clearly and effectively, in a supportive environment.
Receive constructive feedback. Attendees will receive valuable feedback from experienced researchers, practitioners, and peers.
Foster research collaborations. The event will provide many networking opportunities and attendees will be able to explore potential research collaborations.
Submissions
Participants in the doctoral symposium aim to mimic a mini-thesis defense. The students should be able to present:
The importance of the problem.
A clear research outline.
Some preliminary work and initial results.
An evaluation plan.
Please submit a research statement comprising four to six pages, with an additional page allowed exclusively for references. The research statement should include the following:
Problem Description (What is the problem? Why is it significant? What is missing in the current state of the art to solve this problem?)
Goal Statement (What is the goal of your research? What artifacts (tools, theories, methods) do you aim at producing? How do these artifacts address the problem at hand?)
Method (What experiments, prototypes, or studies need to be produced/executed? What is the validation strategy and how will it show the goal was reached?)
Preliminary work (What are your initial results and findings?)
Notes: This isn’t a technical paper, so don’t focus on technical details, but rather on the research method.
