The W2GIS 2025 Doctoral Symposium invites PhD students at all stages of their research to participate in an enriching academic experience at UPIITA, IPN, in Mexico City. This event serves as a valuable platform for doctoral candidates to engage with renowned researchers and industry experts, to receive constructive feedback, and to foster meaningful collaborations in the field of geospatial information systems.
The primary objectives of the W2GIS 2025 Doctoral Symposium are:
Enhance communication skills: Students will practice presenting their research clearly and effectively in a supportive environment.
Receive constructive feedback: Attendees will benefit from valuable insights provided by experienced researchers, practitioners, and peers.
Foster research collaborations: The event offers abundant networking opportunities to explore potential collaborations with international experts and fellow researchers.
Participants in the doctoral symposium will simulate a mini-thesis defence practice. Doctoral students are expected to prepare presentations covering the following:
The importance of the problem.
A clear research outline.
Some preliminary work and initial results.
An evaluation plan.
Please submit a research statement comprising four to six pages, with one additional page allowed for references. The research statement should address:
Problem Description. What is the problem? Why is it significant? What gaps exist in the current state of the art to solve this problem?
Goal Statement. What is the goal of your research? What artifacts (tools, theories, methods) do you aim to produce? How do these artifacts address the problem at hand?
Method. What experiments, prototypes, or studies will you conduct? What is your validation strategy?
Preliminary Work. What are your initial findings and results?
Note: This is not a technical paper. Focus on the research method and its significance rather than technical details.
