W.E.I.R.D.O.S., the acronym for the Worldwide Extranormal Intervention & Reconnaissance Department Operative Specialists, is an odd story--taken from events from the author's own odd, historic, diverse, and occultic family ancestry--about a struggling postgrad who, after the crappiest year of her life inherits a generations-old family curse which grants her the ability to see, hear, and communicate with demons--among other things to be revealed later. She quickly finds herself in the quirky international government-funded vagabond lifestyle of demon hunting, which is not quite the career she imagined doing with her BA in Communications. Little does she know that she and her new colleagues will be the only thing to prevent the end of the world as we know it.
Volume One: The Genesis of WTF?! serves as an origin story for the main series protagonist, Regina Weir. Regina is a character the author created after her therapist told her to try "truth as fiction" writing, which has expanded to this whole first volume and outline for an entire series. Regina experiences the loss of three grandparents and her father, all within the span of five months, while also dealing with the inability to find a job in the field that she got a degree for as she is met with many roadblocks, including the need for 10 years + experience for all the posted entry-level jobs. She is lost and becomes even more lost after she inherits the curse as she is now expected to be a superhero...which, as a clumsy, accident-prone, chubbier, unathletic, never-fought-a-day-in-her-life young adult, was never on her possible careers list. Throughout the series, she will battle with many supernatural creatures but ultimately be battling the much scarier forces of: generational trauma, grief, re-discovering oneself, chronic illness, anxiety, depression, her own ADHD, and CPTSD.
