Research Experience

RESEARCH INTEREST

I am interested in exploring the potential of instructional technologies for improving math learning and teaching, developing positive help-seeking behaviors, providing accurate ratings, decreasing negative feelings in classrooms, and minimizing gender gaps in STEM fields.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

2020 - Present Graduate Research Assistant

Department of Learning Sciences and Technologies, Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Under the guidance of Dr. Erin Ottmar, I will develop an empirical research project to identify how using technology in math classrooms can improve math learning, provide accurate ratings and minimize gender gaps in STEM fields. I will conduct exploratory works and literature reviews on math anxiety, help-seeking behaviors, and the use of technologies in math classrooms. I also participate in several other projects focusing on the effects of technology on math education in the department.

2017 - 2019 Research Assistant

Department of Psychology, Lawrence University

I assisted Dr. Beth Haines and Dr. Kathy Phillippi-Immel with a longitudinal project on the effects of mindfulness and kindness curriculum on preschool children’s cognitive and social development. I designed and implemented cognitive and social assessments for children, worked with teachers to prepare classroom materials, trained other undergraduates on research protocol, and participated in data analysis and presentation.

2018 Summer Research Assistant

Department of Behavioral Decision Making, University of California, Los Angeles

I helped Dr. Hal Hershfield and doctoral student Elicia John develop an empirical research project examining how levels of motivation and race-associated trauma affect productivity on repeated tasks. I conducted literature review, designed pre-assessment surveys on intrinsic motivation and racial trauma, administered laboratory experiments, collected and analyzed data on task productivity.

2017 Student Researcher

Department of Psychology, Lawrence University

Under Dr. Peter Glick's supervision, I conducted an empirical research project on the effects of sexism towards people’s perception of female leaders in the workplace. With two other undergraduates, I prepared IRB submission, designed and implemented research protocol, administered experiments, analyzed data and presented results at Lawrence University’s Psychology Research Symposium.
