This session will look at how well-being was made a focus of a distance learning art program and how this led to more intentional social-emotional learning opportunities for students upon their return to in-person school. Sharing the background, strategies, protocols, and thinking routines we introduced as part of our ongoing commitment, we will explore some ways in which well-being can be placed at the heart of our planning for meaningful learning experiences.
Squash books are a great tool for students to create and can be used to collect samples of work, develop problem-solving and construction skills, and are an excellent tool for developing fine motor skills. This co-presented workshop facilitates the making of these origami books and shares how we use them with our art students. (2023)
A workshop for local teachers in Vietnamese Elementary schools: How can we facilitate social-emotional development through art-making? A workshop examining strategies and activities that can be used to enhance children's social-emotional development though the art process.
Visual Journaling is a creative way to express and record experiences, feelings, and emotions through images and text. Sharing how I introduced these ideas to students and the explorations that took place as a result with the creation of mini-journals and folding, origami journals.
How do we, as elementary educators, create conditions for our students to achieve balance? How do we encourage creativity, fine motor skills, and interaction with materials, in essence keeping the real world alive, without denying the importance of technology? An invitation to participants to imagine how they can better balance the creative opportunities offered to students through technology, with those that are physical and sensory. (2023)

A presentation, in Italian, about the 3 phases of the "At School with Guggenheim' project for which I was the lead teacher. Detailing art units that followed visits to the Guggenheim Collection in Venice, this presentation focused on the mixed-media responses and personal portfolios students built, along with the benefits of engaging first-hand with gallery visits and artworks.
