The Village School of Louisville is a school about preparing children to become leaders rather than followers. As such, we have organized a student government for children to better communicate their ideas and thoughts throughout the school. Everything involving student government from its structure to this website has been created off of the ideas from our student body.
Children learn best when their education is joyful, filled with information relevant to them and their communities, engaged in hands-on learning, and the child and whole family is supported. We are building that educational community.
For decades, schools in Finland have continually produced highly achieving and well-balanced students thanks to common-sense practices, flexibility, and a focus on the whole-child—who is taught to enjoy learning instead of merely passing tests.
We, the founders of The Village School of Louisville, believe that—with your family—we will build a successful, Finnish-inspired education for children in grades Kindergarten-10th. We added 10th grade for the 2023-2024 school year and a HS grade each year until we offer K-12th grades.
Our world is changing rapidly, and we must prepare our children for a new one—a knowledge-based economy steeped in gender, racial, and economic equity. The future is theirs, and we must foster their innate flexibility and love of learning while supporting the health and well-being of not only our students but their families and communities as well. Education should be inspiring and exciting and we will find ways to challenge and engage without unnecessary stress.
Student government plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of community, representation, and empowerment. It is a platform for students to voice their concerns, advocate for their needs, and actively participate in shaping the policies and activities that directly impact their academic and social experiences.
One of the primary reasons we want student government is its importance in bringing students, faculty, and administration together. Through student government, students can express their opinions on various issues, propose initiatives for improvement, and work towards implementing positive changes for all of VSL's students and staff.
At VSL we strive constantly to build a better community, and student government is just the next step in that process.
