About this gathering

Why a virtual gathering?

This gathering was planned by members of the Disabled Affinity Group (hereafter, the DAG) after the POD Network's 2024 conference Call for Proposals was released. The aim of this gathering is to provide more fully virtual options for professional development, networking, and resource sharing in the 2024 calendar year, which the DAG members felt was particularly important given the lack of a fully online concurrent POD conference this year. While this virtual gathering is not POD-affiliated, it is intended to complement other POD-sponsored virtual programming, such as the forthcoming hybrid options for the 2024 conference as well as those offered by the Professional Development Committee.

Petition to form an ad hoc committee on virtual programming

Members of the DAG worked to create language around a petition to form an ad hoc committee on virtual programming for the POD Network. In the span of only a few days, that petition received 105 signatures. In the petition, DAG members explained the importance of offering fully virtual programming as part of the POD Network's professional development and networking functions. The petition also highlighted where members of the DAG felt the conference was not living up to the stated POD Network's Vision, Mission, and Values.  You can read more by exploring the petition's language here.
