Below are few of the projects that I've been involved with during my time at Buffalo Trail Public Schools. I worked closely with a Grade 1 teacher from Edgerton Public School on a discipline-based inquiry project. She wanted her students to identify important features or landmarks within their village. She saw this as an opportunity to do something different and challenging for her students, so I introduced her to Google My Maps. Her students could create an interactive multi-layered map and customize it in their own voice with their own descriptions and media. Her students felt empowered, engaged, and took pride in their village.

In 2016, I shifted away from devices like Chromebooks and tablets. I wanted to work closely with teachers to get their students to demonstrate learning through coding, but I didn’t want coding to be something other-worldly that happened in a lab or a computer class. They needed to see that robots, drones and coding could just be part of their everyday class. This video shows different curriculum outcomes and competencies achieved in unique ways because it's important to prepare students for life in this this complex an interconnected world.

She touched based with me, and we planned a great unit that got her students to go beyond just thinking about science and technology, but how their project could impact their community. Sadly, we didn’t win the competition, but the students were engaged and felt empowered as learners and leaders in their school and community.

I reviewed applications from teachers and worked closely with them to see how learning blossomed in different ways. I observed, coached, and gathered evidence and data on engagement and collaboration. We created videos and reflections based on the survey data and projects students made. After the completion of the pilots, schools in BTPS acquired and made devices available to more students than ever before. I continue to support teachers and classes as they find new and engaging ways of learning.
