About

Viewpoint School's Student Emergency Response Team (SERT) is a student led program that allows students to get hands on training and experience to prepare for a major school emergency. In the event of a school emergency, SERT would act as a valuable resource to our Campus Safety team by utilizing the team's training and skills to assist in search and rescue, triage, first aid, and incident command.

The program focusses on preparing students for disasters and crises in the community. Part of this is educating the students about different types of emergencies that could affect their lives, and learning how to combat those crises. This education makes the students more aware of the world around them and how devastating tragedies can be. The training the students receive prepares them to assist during a school emergency, or an emergency they may encounter in their daily life, making them more prepared to face unpredictable situations.

Currently, the team has over 50 student members, some of which are nationally certified by FEMA. All of these students have completed a training course administered by Viewpoint's Campus Safety team consisting of a range of skills including first aid, CPR, AED, school emergency procedures, triage, search and rescue, fire suppression, and incident command. Most of these students joined the team with no prior experience or knowledge in those fields.

The team is entirely student run, and was founded by students with the help of Viewpoint's Campus Safety team and administration.
