Located in the Morning Glory suburb of Upington, Vooruitsig Intermediate School has long served as a cornerstone of education in the Northern Cape. Operating as a public intermediate school under the ZF Mgcawu Education District, Vooruitsig has grown into a vibrant learning environment that reflects both academic rigor and community spirit.
The school’s motto, “Mik hoog en steeds hoër” (“Aim high and ever higher”), captures its commitment to empowering learners to reach their full potential. Over the years, Vooruitsig has cultivated a culture of excellence through dedicated educators, inclusive values, and a strong emphasis on holistic development — from academics to sports, arts, and social responsibility.
With over 780 learners and a team of 24 educators as of 2023, the school maintains a dynamic student-teacher ratio and continues to evolve with the needs of its community. Events like the annual Mother’s Day celebration, sports tournaments, and outreach programs reflect its deep connection to families and local values
The Vooruitsig Coding Club was born from a simple but powerful idea: to give young learners at Vooruitsig Intermediate School the tools to shape their future through technology. Founded by IT admin, software engineer and creative leader Jeremy. J. Schreiner, the club began as a small after-school initiative — just a few curious kids, a handful of laptops, and a big dream.Â
From its earliest days, the club focused on inclusivity, creativity, and ethical tech exploration. Learners weren’t just taught to code — they were encouraged to think critically, collaborate, and express themselves through digital storytelling, robotics, and game design. As interest grew, so did the club’s reach. Parents got involved, posters went up, and soon the classroom buzzed with energy and ideas.
Over time, the club developed its own identity — complete with a playful robot mascot, a learner-designed logo, and classroom scenes that reflected the diversity and spirit of its members. Today, the Vooruitsig Coding Club stands as a proud part of the school’s culture, empowering kids to become confident creators and thoughtful problem-solvers.
What started as a spark has become a movement — one that continues to grow, inspire, and uplift every learner who walks through its doors.
At Vooruitsig Coding Club, we believe every child deserves the chance to explore, create, and thrive through technology. Founded by passionate educators and powered by curious young minds, our club is a vibrant space where learners dive into coding, robotics, and digital storytelling — all while having fun and building confidence.
We focus on inclusive, ethical tech education that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Whether our members are designing games, animating mascots, or solving real-world challenges, they’re growing into thoughtful innovators and empowered problem-solvers.
Our classroom is more than just screens and code — it’s a community. We celebrate every learner’s unique spark, support each other’s growth, and build bridges between parents, educators, and the future of tech. At Vooruitsig, coding isn’t just a skill — it’s a language of possibility.
