What are Community Schools?

Community Schools are a partnership among the City of Philadelphia, the School District of Philadelphia, and school communities to remove barriers to learning and support the success of each student.

The long-term goal of Community Schools is to ensure that every student graduates college- and career-ready, and that communities are healthy, safe, hopeful, and supportive.

In each Community School, a Community School Coordinator supports strategic partnerships and programs that promote wellness, stability, and learning opportunities for students, families, and neighbors.

There are 20 Community Schools located across the city.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Philly Reading Coaches is an out-of-school (OST) program that combines early reading support, access to books, and community volunteers to boost reading skills among K-3 students.

We are currently not placing new volunteers in schools since the 2023-2024 school year is almost over. Please continue to fill out our interest form and submit your paperwork to volunteer for the 2024-2025 school year.

General School Support

General volunteer opportunities can vary by school. Some opportunities can include: event support, beautification projects, administrative tasks, organizing the school library, and more.
