When you first download and use RimSort, make sure to set it up correctly before working with it. Unlike RimPy - which typically only wants you to set up your file-paths - RimSort comes with a few settings that might not be set optimally by default. The following list goes over the most important ones.
This guide is specifically made for RimSort version 1.3.0 - if your version differs and you can't find some of the listed settings, it's possible those renamed or don't exist in your particular version. We try to keep the guide as up-to-date as possible and most listed settings are so central to the apps functionality that it's unlikely that they will be removed by an update.
Different Folder Locations
Aside from the Instance Folder all of them need to be set up correctly for RimSort to work. The Autodetect button on the bottom should find those folders automatically - if it doesn't work for you, put in the locations by hand - using File Locations for reference when in doubt.
Enable Steam Client Integration - ON
This settings enables RimSort to start the game over the SteamAPI. If not set to ON, RimWorld won't be able to load Steam mods when started through RimSort. Obviously this is only relevant if you run a Steam-version of RimWorld!
Edit Game Run Arguments
This will add startup-parameters for when you start RimWorld through RimSort. Some commonly used parameters can be found [HERE].
For RimWorld 1.6 you want to add the parameter;
-disable-compute-shaders
at the very least, otherwise the game can run into serious issues when loading mods on certain hardware!
Select the "Github" option for both the Community and the Steam Workshop database. The settings will apply themselves after restarting RimSort. If the Github option doesn't work for you, consider using "URL" instead and then hit the "Download" buttons on the right. Without those two databases, RimSort's sorting won't be any more reliable than just the ingame mod-menu.
The "No Version Warning" and "Use This Instead" databases are more optional. We recommend to use the latter but NOT the former!
Delete Before Update - ON
SteamCMD is an optional feature - it offers a way to download mods from the Steam Workshop even if you don't own the game on Steam.
If you plan on using SteamCMD, make sure this setting is turned ON - otherwise you're running an increased risk of mod-updates corrupting files over time, which can cause issues that are hard to identify and track down.
Overwrite Existing Optimized Textures - ON
For RimSort's texture-conversion to work optimally and fix eventually broken .dds files, you want this to always be ON.
The full context and reason is too complex to handle here though. For more information, check our more in-depth texture-conversion guide!
Update Databases On Startup
Not obligatory, but having this setting turned ON will help to not forget to update the databases every now and then. In general there's little reason ever turn it OFF.
Create Backup Before RimSort Update
Another optional setting. Some users report the auto-update feature for RimSort not working correctly and 'hanging' for a long time trying to make the backup.
We personally don't see any good reason for a backup like this, since even if something goes wrong, you can always just re-download any previous version of RimSort from their Github page. So the recommendation is to turn it OFF completely and save time and disk-space.
