The Summer Solstice Portion of the Outer Wall
In June of 2003, I wanted to see what Summer Solstice was like at the ruin. A friend who had been a Force Recon Marine accompanied me to the ruin, an anthropology major. The ruin's walls were covered in ladybugs.
I didn't get a picture of them on this trip, so I borrowed this one from hikearizona.com.* The little darlings cover the tuffstone walls in late June frosting them in red.
I hoped to find a summer solstice sunset horizon marker or some indication in the ruin of the event, but we found neither.
The sunset picture below is pretty, but no visible horizon marker like the equinox sunset, nor any indication on the crumbling portion of the wall.
