For my TL1, since I've studied it the longest, and as rusty as I am, since I feel like I have a pretty good foundation, I'm getting a little fatigued with flashcards and refreshing old lessons to improve my grammar, so I thought that maybe the best thing for me at the moment would be to dive into shows and books. My problem is that my vocabulary has always been my biggest weakness, even for things at a children's level. For example, if I'm watching a show, where the main characters are, say, going to pretend that they're going on an archeological dig in their backyard, I don't know words like dig site, arrowhead, etc, and in higher level programming, there is sooooo much slang, casual language, and shorthand that it makes me feel like I'm back at the starting block. When I try to be more militant in making flashcards for every single word I don't know but could reasonably come across, it feels tedious, and it feels like more of a chore than entertainment. Technically this is another form of self study, but I guess the frustration makes it feel like it defeats the purpose of choosing a study method with higher entertainment value. Conversely, if I go about it in a more carefree way where I don't look up or write down every word I don't know, there's huge room for possible misinterpretation. It feels like a bit of a catch 22.

ESL 099 - Intermediate Reading, Writing, and VocabularyThis is an intermediate-level English language course for students whose first language is not English. This is a developmental ESL course designed to help students compose fluent and accurate writing as used in academic settings.
