In network adapters on windows 10 host the virtual networks doesn't appear but if I go to devices manager I can see two unknown devices, after reinstaling the controller it says that windows encountered a problem updating the controller (error 18) for the device "VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet1" and "VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet8"

I fixed my virtual network adapters by running the VMware Workstation install again and selecting repair. Afterwards it required restart. Once it booted up my VMs all had their network adapters working and connected.

Hey guys I had the same issue. Running a Windows 10 laptop and VMware workstation 15.5 would not create virtual network adapters. I tried the solution mentioned here plus many more things and nothing worked. Also I noticed that not only EVE would not work, but GNS3 could not integrate with a VM.

After some troubleshooting I came to the conclusion that it was not Vmware the problem or Gns3, but windows somewhere where my knowledge was not deep enough. Long story short. I had to reinstall windows setting keeping my documents. That did the trick, Vmware was able to create virtual adapters and I could connect EVE and gns3 VM.

The host-only adapter driver does not seem to be running. If you have not rebooted the host since installing the host-only network adapter, you need to do so before you can use this support. Otherwise, check the system Event Log for an explanation of why service VMnetAdapter did not startup properly. Failed to connect virtual device Ethernet0.

Just my 2 cents about my experience regarding the loss of my VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapters for VMnet8, VMnet1 after I upgraded my windows 7 to 10. I could open my Vmware player 6.07 and my virtual machine (win xp) , but the internet connection inside my VM wasn't working. I read around on internet to find out the cause and found that the virtual adapters were missing. I also noticed that the adapters had become unknown devices in my device manager in control panel. I tried to find out how to restore those virtual adapters and came upon some suggestions to use vmnetcfg.exe along with vmnetcfglib to restor the default as in one of the posts above. I was able to find the files at this website Vmnetcfg download (Not trying to promote that site at all, just for convenience). I chose the VM player 6.06 although mine was 6.07. When I clicked on restore default, the virtual adapters VMnet8, VMnet1 were not restored, but in control panel/admin tools/services, I saw two new services installed . They were Vmware dhcp and VMware Nat.I made sure all VmWare services were started and I launched my VmWare player and opened my win xp VM. The internet was working fine. That's how I fixed my problem and hope it helps someone else.

I've used windows 10 with vmware workstation pro for a looooong time (currently 16.2.3). no issues to speak of. I did a trial run of 11 some time ago and immediately noticed my vmnet1 and vmnet8 were coming up as under an unidentified/public network. I figured growing pains/driver issue since it was pre release.

half a year later i just did a clean install of 11 pro. installed all my drivers, then vmware. Bam, same thing. first thing i noticed is this "unidentified" network is somehow taking priority on restarts and win11 is connecting to that first, before swapping to my ethernet. This is causing softwares to create/prompt for public network firewall rules.

I have no idea if this is a vmware problem, a windows 11 problem...but ive resorted to using vmware's virtual network editor to disconnect them from my host pc for now. this removes them from network connections, allows WOL to work, and stops prompting me for public rules for whatever software i install that needs access on reboot due to it enumerating/prioritizing those/that network first.

I installed VMWare workstation 7.1 on a new PC. VMWare properly installs the virtual network adapters under the Network Connections control panel, however for some reason they do not show up under ipconfig, which is very weird. They also don't appear anywhere in "route print". I don't have network connectivity to the VM.

Background

Vnetlib is the invisible engine working in the backgrounds of the gui tools like vmware.exe, vmnetcfg.exe and the installer. Vnetlib can install and uninstall almost all the services, as well as configuring the virtual networking. This little powerful tool can evidentally aid alot in repairing broken installations. And best of all - it's command line.

Namely 4 services are fully dependant on this entry: adapter, authd, bridge and vmkbd.

WMI must also be enabled if vnetlib should be able to interact with bridge. A workaround is described in the vmnetbridge section.

Vnetlib will also require that %SystemRoot% is writeable, because it copies the files found in the path mentioned above and into 3 specific folders: %SystemRoot%\inf, %SystemRoot%\system32 and %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers. This requirement only applies when installing the services.

If %SystemRoot% is read-only as is the case with certain Preinstallation Environments, then look at the alternative way of installing theses services, described later in this document.

Note:

Uninstalling adapter or driver with a subsequent install of driver/devices will require a reboot.

It is then necessary to issue a "vnetlib -- update all" to get vmnetadapter visible again after the reboot.

Example:

"dhcp" will be accepted as "d" "dh" "de"

"all" will be accepted as "ali" and "-- install all" = "-- install authd"

"serverd" will be accepted as "status"

"adapter" will be accepted as "anabolics", but also "aggressive" and "aggressively"

"devices" will be accepted as "drivers" "default" and "donjuan", but not as "devicess". Still not sure what it is supposed to be for this one.

"nat" will be accepted as "n" "net"

"bridge" will be accepted as "b" "br" "bbb" "brittt"

"legacy" will be accepted as "looser", but not as "loooser"

 "userif" will only accept "userif"

 and so on...

When you are not running a VMWare session, you may want to disable the VMware virtual network adapters. I have found that they can slow down network operations on the host. Anything doing a UDP broadcast that is sentg over all adapters will take much longer to run if they broadcast over the VMWare adapters. The ListAvailableSQLServers function call in the SQLDMO library is one example that I came across that slowed down dramaticly with the VMWare adapters running.

I too saw the same problem you faced. I opened a support case on Jan 30 (support case 2018011119580003). Their initial reply on the same day (other than the auto-reply) was to ask for a screenshot and if I was running any virtualization app. I was running VMware Workstation on two of the PCs that I wanted to use Bitdefender on. I replied to them on Feb 1 noting your forum post and your support case number. On Feb 2, they replied (looking on the logs sent by the Support Tool that I used to create the support case initially), that both PCs had identical ethernet MAC addresses.

If all else fails, you might want to try uninstalling and then reinstalling the virtual machine tools. These tools typically consist of drivers for the network adapter. See more details General VMware Tools installation instructions (1014294)

Think you need virtual network editor, it should come with vmware workstation if I remember correctly. I installed vmware workstation 16.0.0-1 from the aur and that gives me vmware player and virtual network editor

It is 100% the same, I have 4 network adapters and 4 virtual network adapters so each time I boot up or resume from sleep Kaspersky asks me 8 (eight) times to block, restrict or allow network activity.

All virtual machine hosting environments install one or more virtual network interfaces to serve as the Ethernet adapters for installed virtual machines. However, with StreamBase releases before 10.3.0, the presence of virtual network interfaces was known to conflict with the operation of the StreamBase Runtime. e24fc04721
