I've done the hardest part for you, which is finding which download links that lead you on the correct path for the ISOs, along with the exact keys that you'll need to activate your newly-built home lab. The ESXi code is available in various places on the download site, but the exact license keys you need are found by following along with these steps below, as also demonstrated in my short video below.

with detailed instructions for new enrollees and existing VMUG members here, and information on getting help at the VMUG Advantage Help Desk. You can also contact VMUG Advantage for any remaining questions by email to advantage@vmug.com.

There's a screenshot below to guide you. The first time you add an item to your cart and checkout, you'll need to sign the EULA and opt-in our opt-out of email offers, then you'll arrive at the actual download screen and receive your license keys. Your expiry dates will vary, I cut-and-pasted mine as examples below, taken as I went to paste the licenses in to my vSphere Web Client.

Note that vSAN is baked right into the hypervisor, so there is no separate download, and you're entitled to activate vSAN on up to 6 single-CPU systems! You'll find many any other great downloads in the store too, but note that NSX is not compatible with 6.7 quite yet, so you'll want to do your homework first. Don't worry, all the links and highlights are right here at TinkerTry, something to read while waiting for those downloads to finish.

As of May 04 2018, these 2 ISOs you just downloaded are the exact same code that comes the download site above! Even better, it's gotten easier for folks to upgrade lately, even if the EVALExperience falls a few months behind. See how easy these updates have become for yourself, with these links for VCSA and ESXi.

There's dozens of files in that VMUG Advantage EVALExperience Web Store awaiting, and they still seem to come from CacheFly CDN by the way, apparently rate-limited to around 36Mbps in my location, as you'll see in the video below.

See also this spot, there's a good tip from 3 years ago about the actual length of your new license keys. It's actually quite a bit beyond 365 days, and this is apparently still true today! I'm still testing this in my early 6.7 roll-out testing in my home lab, but it appears that I have until 7/30/2019 to renew my VMUG Advantage EVALExperience to keep my home lab humming along without interruption, and without a rebuild. Nice! There are many other benefits to VMUG Advantage (discounts on eduction and much more), details at VMUG Advantage:

After 6 successful years testing then shipping well over 1,000 Xeon D Bundles, Wiredzone had to stop selling them in mid-2021 due to cost, supply, and logistics challenges. So far, Xeon D-1700/2700 (Ice Lake D) was a minor refresh for 2023, with Xeon D-1800/2800 (Granite Rapids D) refresh looking a little better for 2024. More cores, but still just PCIe Gen4 and DDR4. Looking ahead, I'm glad it's Pat Gelsinger at Intel's helm. I'm also grateful to have had the honor of working at VMware when Pat was the CIO there. I'll leave it at that, given the whole Broadcom thing. Easily update VMware ESXi at TinkerTry.com/easy-update-to-latest-esxi

For those not familiar with the VMUG Advantage membership, it provides benefits such as access to training, VMworld discounts but also to EVALExperience, which provides you with 365-days access (non-production usage) to the latest VMware solutions such as vSphere, vSAN, NSX, vRealize, Tanzu and VMware Cloud Foundation. The EVALExperience alone is worth the normal $200 USD membership fee and is certainly one of the cheapest and easiest way to get access to all the latest VMware offerings for homelab and educational purposes.

I also saw this on Duncan's site. I guess I'm a little confused. Is the code sent only after the survey ends? Or does the group buy deal end May 3rd? Would really like to take advantage of this offer. First timer here and don't want to miss the opportunity. I did fill out the form but haven't received anything yet.

We're roughly 51 away from 300 mark which provides 15% off, hopefully that'll be reached in the coming days and then you'll receive the code which you can then apply. The survey ends 2weeks from the date of the blog post, but I've got a feeling we should be able to reach the minimum 300 to get nice 15% discount.

VMUG Advantage Members get many benefits like discounted VMware Education and exams but one of the most impressive things for myself was the Evaluation licenses for most VMware products. More information about the subscription can be found here: -advantage-membership

The E200-8D has a PCIe slot which can be used for another SSD with the correct adapter. I had a spare 512GB NVMe which was going spare from an old laptop so purchased a PCIe to NVMe adapter and gained some more storage.

This has been in my draft for ages and I apologize for that not publish about this earlier. I'm sure that most likely everyone knows, BUT just to make sure that all my readership gets the message too. Today I'd like to highlight that VMUG is Free, but VMUG Advantage With EVAL Experience is Better for a Reasonable $200/Year, where you get ALL VMware Licenses you need for your lab, during one year.

We'll get into the details in a moment, but let me tell you first for who this message is destined most. It's for all IT and VMware folks learning VMware technology on daily basis, passing VMware certification exams and trying to reproduce things in your own lab environments (home lab, homelab nested, Ravello cloud lab, VMware HOL, other cloud environments you might have access to).

Note that the offer has not only VMware Datacenter and cloud product licenses, but also VMware Workstation Pro and Fusion Pro licenses, for those who just have a Windows or MAC box at home, to do nested virtualization.

VMware trials expire after 60 days and reinstall the trial every time is pretty painful, a lot of work, depending on what have you constructed and tested. Even for nested environments, there is pretty much a lot of manual steps involved until the lab you wanted to achieve, actually works.

Hence the need for a license which lasts longer. And the case of VMUG Advantage, you have the license valid for 365 days. VMUG Advantage has that EVALEXPERIENCE which gives you the access to ALL downloads and licenses for the whole year.

Whether the VMUG membership is completely free, the annual VMUG Advantage subscription costs $200, but it offers a number of discounts and perks that can save IT professionals costs on VMware training, certification, product licenses and even attendance at VMworld, VMware's annual user conference. There are also corporate discounts available that can bring down the $200 price of the membership.

Need help on educating your boss on the importance of purchasing your VMUG Advantage membership? We have created a justification email for you to use. Please edit or revise the letter to fit your needs.

VMUG Advantage is the subscription you need. Why haven't I blogged about it earlier? It's because ESX Virtualization is VMware partner so we have those necessary license keys for our lab. I'm also part of the VMware vExpert program since its inception, so part of the vExpert program is the 365 eval keys too.

But for users which are simple employees, not vExperts and are not VMware partners, this is a super deal IMHO. The fact that there are other discounts tightened to the VMUG Advantage makes it even better deal which can give substantial savings to the company you're working for.

Just recently, VMware has opened a registration for VMworld 2018. When registering early, you have a possibility to benefit from early bird pricing. The registration is now open. Register here. Discounts for groups, VMworld alumni, VMUG Advantage Level members, VMware Certified Professionals, and attendees in the government and education sectors are available.

It is mentioned that vmug subscription is for personal use only. Can I get it for lab at work to test stuff before deploying in production.? We are looking to buy some hardware, but getting production licenses for the lab would be very expensive. 152ee80cbc
