Established in 1991, PEREY Research & Consulting is a consulting firm serving a wide range of international clients and projects. At its core, it provides insights, services and programs for executives and teams building and acquiring XR-enabling technologies as well as to the largest enterprise Augmented Reality (AR) platform customers. Reducing the negative impacts of corporate technology silos and increasing the potential for innovation and integration in the domain of XR and Virtual Worlds technologies have been the objectives of this company since 2006. We have prepared and participated in development of many public and private standards landscapes, gap assessments and roadmaps for standards development, beginning in early 2009.
In addition to providing research and consulting, Christine Perey is the founder of several organizations: the AR for Enterprise Alliance (AREA), the Open AR Cloud Association and other global groups advocating for widespread adoption of Augmented Reality and
enabling technologies (e.g., adhoc community for Open and Interoperable AR Experiences, Metaverse Standards Forum).
She is a world-renown advocate for open and interoperable AR and serves on numerous boards. She is an elected officer/board member of the AR for Enterprise Alliance, Metaverse Standards Forum and the Open AR Cloud association (both International and European), and currently leads (in the role of officer and/or chair of) several standards working groups in IEEE Standards Association and the Open Geospatial Consortium. In addition to standards development, she is an active contributor of the Metaverse Standards Forum's Standards Register WG, Industrial Metaverse WG, Volumetric Media WG, and Oversight Committee.
Christine was responsible for all technical and administrative activities relating to this project. The primary services provided to the successful achievement of this project's goals included:
- primary and secondary research (primary activity of PEREY Research & Consulting),
- program/project management,
- community engagement/leadership, and
- communication (all forms).
In addition to one Senior Researcher for this project, PEREY Research & Consulting provided the services of Giuseppe Scavo, Data Engineer, for the fulfillment of the project’s goals in accordance with the project's highly structured data acquisition and processing methodologies.
Christoph Runde is the senior standardization expert. With more than 25 years of industry experience, he is a pioneer in the field of professional systems and applications of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). After starting his career at Porsche, he joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in 1999, where he led the institute's activities in VR/AR. Beginning in 2007 he developed the Virtual Dimension Center (VDC) into one of the biggest and most successful cluster initiatives for VR/AR in Europe. The VDC maintains a liaison with ISO-IEC JTC1/SC24 Computer graphics, image processing and environmental data representation, and memberships with the Alliance for OpenUSD, App Defense Alliance, Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO), IEEE Standards, and the Khronos Group.
In parallel to his position as director of VDC, Christoph Runde is professor for Virtual Reality at the Heilbronn University. In the European Association for eXtended Reality (EuroXR) he works as Vice President Industry and End Users. Christoph Runde is the author of the largest database on XR and MV related norms, standards, specifications, guidelines, recommendations, working groups and standard development organizations. He is also the co-chair of the Metaverse Standards Forum's Standards Register WG.
For this project Christoph conducts primary and secondary research to compile all information about existing and ongoing standards activities. Standardization requirements will be raised from interviews with experts in Christoph’s huge network to more dozens of standard development organizations (SDOs), and in dozens of XR and MV initiatives across Europe.
Giuseppe Scavo was the Data Engineer for this project. He is a seasoned Developer and Technical Leader with over a decade of experience specializing in Immersive Technologies and Artificial Intelligence. With a strong academic foundation in Computer Engineering and hands-on expertise in AR and VR, he has played pivotal roles in developing cutting-edge applications and shaping the strategic direction of various organizations.
As the Head of R&D at D&C Labs, Giuseppe spearheaded the launch of the Maltese office, driving the company’s growth through innovative product development. His leadership in designing and directing Fanport, a groundbreaking Mixed Reality Location-Based Entertainment (LBE) experience, exemplifies his ability to merge technical expertise with creative vision. Additionally, his efforts in talent engagement and the conceptualization of a VPS-themed hackathon highlight his commitment to fostering innovation within the XR community.
In his tenure as the Head of Development at Draw & Code, Giuseppe established scalable DevOps practices, introduced a standardized development pipeline, and mentored emerging talent. Notable achievements include leading the development of an AR-enabled mobile gaming app for McDonald’s and contributing to a large-scale immersive installation in London.
Earlier roles as a Senior Unity Developer and Project Officer allowed Giuseppe to refine his technical skills, working on high-profile projects like the Mercedes Vans Showcase trailer and AR experiences for institutions like the St. George’s Hall museum. His academic research during his PhD at the Open University delved into AR applications for industrial settings, culminating in a proof-of-concept for the European Space Agency.
