Building Awareness Through Diverse Perspectives and Identities
COMM 150B: Public Relations Theories & Principles
In a final group project, myself and four other students were tasked to design an awareness campaign targeted towards communities at high-risk for wildfires. It was our responsibility to educate affected communities so they could be prepared and implement prevention strategies that would lower their risk.
Our group researched which communities and locations across California tended to be the most affected, surveyed impacted populations, developed our problem statement, and then created strategies on how to best spread awareness and educate the communities. We created press releases for mock events, planned communication strategies to sent out alerts and safety kits, and presented our campaign keeping in mind who we were targeting.
Following PLO 6, our group best demonstrated communication strategies that were comprehensive and specific to communities around California most affected by wildfires that would best reach them and look at they could anticipate and prepare for these natural disasters by keeping their perspective in mind.
COMM 113A: Media Psychology
For the course's final project, students were asked to design a mockup of an innovative "creative piece" that engaged, immersed, and transformed users while still being safe, inclusive and fair towards the people interacting with it.
After being online for the duration of my sophomore year, I decided to center propose a mock-up fitness app that accounted for diverse body types and was beneficial to people at various stages in their health journey. During the pandemic, I along with many others, tried to find ways to stay active and healthy while being at home. Knowing that people have various needs and impressions towards developing healthy practices in their lives, I wanted to create a space that felt welcoming to anyone who wanted to take a holistic approach to revamping their health journey.
The final written proposal and mock-up app design effectively represented PLO 6. Understanding the way we interact with media, I looked at creating an app that provided visual demonstrations of exercise routines, catered regimens specific to the user's goals and physique, and was flexible with user availability and level of commitment. The project asked us to be innovative while also being aware of the different perspectives as that influences the way we interact technology and transformative media.
