Workshop on Virtues and Values in Conceptual Modeling and Requirements Engineering
Modellierung 2024
Ethics and human values in developing software systems have long been a topic of discussion. A satisfactory solution like a collection of methods or model gallery for ethical argumentation has not yet been developed. This workshop will work on collecting models, methods, and other specification techniques for incorporating values into system development.
Topics
Theoretical ideas about methods for incorporating human values into system development by modeling activities
Application examples and experience reports for ethical modeling methods
Conceptual integration of values into modeling
Presentation of frameworks and/or method collections for ethical modeling
Evaluation results for the application of value-oriented methods
Application examples of concrete values in modeled systems
Related topics are welcome
Submission
Submit until: December 18, 2023 January 8, 2024 (extended)
Notification: February 14, 2024
Camera-ready: February 23, 2024
The target group of the workshop are scientists and practitioners from information systems, computer science and related disciplines who are interested in ethical issues and values in the context of requirements engineering and system development. A background in the field of philosophy is not a prerequisite for participating in the workshop. The workshop aims at attracting interested participants of the entire Modellierung conference.
Submit at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=vivare24. Please use the LNCS article template to format your submission.
Submissions can be up to 10 pages long, including the list of references. Short articles with a maximum of 5 pages are also possible. All contributions will be reviewed by 3 members of the program committee; accepted submissions will be published in a joint conference proceedings in the Digital Library of the German Informatics society (GI e. V.) https://dl.gi.de/.
Einreichungen in deutscher Sprache sind herzlich willkommen. / German language submissions are warmly welcome.
Workshop Format
The workshop provides a discussion forum in which various methods for incorporating values into system development are discussed. It is planned to include up to four submitted contributions in the workshop. Also, the workshop offers a theoretical and practical introduction to the Square of Values (SoV) modeling approach. After introducing the concepts behind the SoV, participants will put the approach into practice through ethical case studies. A guided discussion then takes place about how suitable the approach is for modeling.
The results of the discussion will be documented in a research paper, for which the workshop participants will be invited as co-authors.
