This website was produced in November 2024 as part of the course UGOD5104 held by Prof. JIANG in HKUST(GZ).
This course aims to impart students with a diverse range of methods and techniques for the interactive modeling and visualization of physical urban environments across two, three, and even four dimensions. This immersive learning experience is facilitated through hands-on practice using cutting-edge computer software. Throughout the course, students will gain proficiency in essential areas such as visualization concepts, scientific visualization, Bertin's theory of visual variables, complex networks, 3D modeling of urban landscapes, and 4D visualization or simulations. Armed with these competencies, students will be well-prepared to effectively manage extensive urban datasets, conceive and develop conceptual plans and designs, and create high-quality renderings and presentations.
On this site, I will share knowledge, exercise and reflections related to the course.
Course Description
As urban areas continue to grow and become more complex, the amount of data generated by cities has increased exponentially. This presents significant challenges in terms of managing and interpreting urban data to address various urban issues or challenges. In response to this, our course is designed to equip students with the skills needed to visualize urban data, enabling them to gain a better understanding of city structure and dynamics. Moreover, this course will provide students with the knowledge and tools needed to conduct sustainable planning and design towards a sustainable society.
