The Vision College of Nursing (VCON) was founded in 2018 to create nurse who promotes health, prevent disease and help patients cope with illness. Our faculties are committed to educating professional nurses who care, cure, and create new knowledge as leaders in improving the health of individuals, families, and communities."
With increase requirement of health care services, the demand for health acre providing staff has also increased including doctors, nurse and paramedic staff. Globally around more than 3 million health care workers renders their services and 2.4 million working as Registered nurses RNs in a different hospital set up. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) evaluation, it states that the world needs to increase the number of health workers by more than 4 million to achieve global health goals.
Pakistan estimated population in 2015 is over 191.7 million making the six most populated countries in the world. It has total 919 hospitals, 560 RHCs and 5334 BHUs where 33 427 nurses, 23427 midwives and 96000LHWs. The medical sector in Pakistan has historically been preoccupied with cure rather than care. As a result, while the country continues to produce a massive number of doctors every year, the nursing workforce has largely been ignored. Despite their integral role in patient care, they are seldom given the attention or recognition they deserve which has inevitably led to a drastic shortage of nurses and paramedics in the country. According to the figure cited by the Journal of Pioneering Medical Sciences 2015, the existing nurse-patient ratio in Pakistan is approximately 1:50 whereas the ratio prescribed by the Pakistan Nursing Council is 1:10 in general areas and 2:3 in specialized areas. To produce an adequate nursing workforce that would at least balance the ratio would be a short-term achievable goal. For that, urgent efforts to construct registered nursing institutes and promote nursing education are required.
The Vision College of Nursing (VCON) will be nationally recognized for taking nurses to a higher level of excellence in education, research and practice through innovative programs that are responsive to current and emerging healthcare challenges Providing evidence-based nurse education in an inter professional environment Developing, testing, and disseminating nursing knowledge in the health sciences Demonstrating excellence in nursing practice that embraces equity and culturally effective care to patients, families, and communities.
