NOT AN EASY JOURNEY: SELF-DISCOVERY

Established in 2014

While I've been preparing taxes since 1996, I legally established Visionary Accounting & Tax Services in 2014.  While I've possessed a passion for preparing taxes, I lacked the self-confidence to go in all the way with this business, and found more security working as an at-home Child Care Provider.  This career choice was as a result of a combination of my teaching background as a New York City Public School teacher, my devout love for working with children, and my challenge of being a single-mom to 4 young children who needed on-demand attention at any given time.

One day, I met a man 10 years my junior at a Tax Conference and we exchanged stories about our journey.  I asked him what else did he do besides tax preparation and he said that was his primary source of revenue.  Astonished, I realized my lack of confidence was the only thing holding me back from pursuing the career that I was most passionate about.  I went home that same afternoon and sent letters out to the parents of the children attending my day care program that I would be officially closing the business in (3) months.  While I still have a strong love for children, I never looked back.
