Over past decades, cold-formed steel (CFS) sections are widely used in wall panel assembly of light gauge steel framed structures. Fire safety design of building structures is an essential requirement as the fire events cause loss of lives and property. Therefore it is essential to understand the fire performance of cold-formed steel sections under fire condition. The buckling behavior of cold-formed steel compression member under fire condition is not well modeled using finite element software. This project presents the detail comparison of different modeling methods and also presents a proposed equation method of modeling to obtain the more accurate outputs similar to that of the experiment. The results have shown that the previous methods of modeling are capable of predicating the local and flexural-torsional bucking mode of CFS at elevated temperature whereas, the failure time and temperature of previous modeling methods were not concentrated. The proposed method of modeling gives the failure time, failure temperature and temperature distribution similar to the experimental results with a difference of values below 3%.

Fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) jackets have been widely used to confine reinforced concrete (RC) columns for enhancement in both strength and ductility. First objective was to identify the type of FRP to be used in Steel tubes. Next objective is to study the performance of FRP in steel tubes to enhance the strength and ductility so that it could be effectively used for the retrofit and strengthening of hollow steel tubes. The confinement effect of fiber sheets in reducing the local elephant foot buckling is identified both numerically through ANSYS software and also experimentally. The parameters included in the study are different shapes for columns, different load patterns and number of confinement layers. Results are extrapolated and published in "Asian Journal of Civil Engineering (Bhrc)”, Vol. 17, No. 5, P.P. 625-634, (2016).

In this study, earthquake response analysis was carried out for multi-storey buildings, treating the foundation to be fixed. Both symmetric and un-symmetric plan of equal area were considered for the study. The analysis is repeated by replacing fixed supports with different soil conditions like cohesive and cohesion-less soil. Soil structure interaction effects due to earthquake excitation was observed. This study was conducted on a STAAD PRO software. Findings obtained from the study was compiled and published as a research paper in “International Journal of Earth Science and Engineering” ”, Vol. 08, No. 03, P.P. 1260-1263, June 2015.

Date : May 2014 - June 2014
The main focus was to learn advance techniques and technologies used in design and analysis of commercial structures. Initially I was trained for designing structures using STAAD Pro software followed by manual design. Later, I designed many components of metro stations and structures which was verified analytically. This helped me in gaining lot of practical knowledge and more advance technologies used in civil engineering. I was also involved in preparing the tender documents and drawings for other similar projects.
