Our Process

In order to explore the needs of the community, our team had the opportunity to shadow various existing programming at the Decatur Living Center. By conducting in-person surveys and having conversations with residents, we discussed what therapeutic recreation activities would interest this group, and what ways we could promote wellness and accessibility in the programming offered. We extracted themes from our surveying, and we hope to address these community needs by offering free classes. After confirming that the need for promoting wellness overall is important to this group, we shifted our focus from specifically therapeutic recreation classes to a broader definition of wellness focused accessible classes.

About our collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine

Our team of first year medical students have created this initiative through Emory's Community Learning and Social Medicine course, which is a year long structured learning experience combining community service with preparation, action and reflection.
