Bernaldo de Quirós is a Secondary School located in Mieres, a small town in Asturias (Spain). As well as classrooms and offices, a section of our school is both a palace and a museum. Its origins date back to an ancient defensive tower built in the 13th century and set at the far end of a bridge which used to be part of a Roman roadway. In 1960 it becomes a Secondary School with a little remodelling, but it is in 2006 that the building attains its current appearance with a new classroom area and the reconstruction of the palace. The Palace is home to one of the most important art galleries in Asturias, which also displays sculptures as well as graphic and pottery works. This Museum starts in 1972, when Carmen Castañón, the headmaster at that time, offers its premises for a painting exhibition in Caudal Valley. In 1974 a new permanent exhibition hall is opened, in which artists can display their works provided that they donate one of them to the museum.

NIGHT SCHOOL: modality of Sciencies and Humanities. The subjects are the same as in the day regime, but spread over three years. This education is designed for those who work or dropped at Secondary School and want to finish it.

The primary goal of Ekpaideftiria Vassiliadis is education and the proper preparation of our students for knowledge, seen as the best asset to promote culture and values worldwide. Our teaching staff has been consistently serving to the training of the students for years, having acquired the necessary pedagogical experience to support every need of theirs. Lifelong learning plays a cardinal role and to this end we seek the training of school teachers in innovative teaching methods and the application of best teaching practices. We work for the promotion and implementation of good practices, trying to initiate all our students into groups or individually, in order to give everyone the opportunity for "learning ", regardless their linguistic, social and cultural diversity. We promote the creativity of children according to their classroom level to engage them in specialized interest groups (clubs). We actively participate in the competitions of cognitive and scientific - cultural - sports content enacted. We encourage the participation of our students in programs of scientific, social, ecological and artistic orientation. Our aim is to create a school open to society. We seek to maintain constant contact with current events of the local, national and international environment.
