The Aztec people were a civilization that flourished in central Mexico from the 14th to the 16th century. They were known for their remarkable accomplishments in architecture, agriculture, art, and religion. They built their capital city of Tenochtitlan on an island in the middle of a lake, which is now modern-day Mexico City. Unfortunately, their civilization was eventually conquered by the Spanish in the 16th century, leading to the end of their cultural and political dominance.
